Groups, Belonging, and Society: When ‘I’ Becomes ‘We’

I am the human ant. When we move from two to many, it is tempting to imagine one large body: the people want, the market is afraid, society has decided. This is useful language, not anatomy.

What emerges in the transition is a coupling structure: gates, roles, rules, and pathways through which one person's action becomes a condition in another's regulation loop. Even inaction becomes a signal, but only where action was expected.

Society is a system, not an organism, a brain, or a psyche. It has no additional nervous system, no single experience, and no water-and-salt account of its own. People are the living bodies, and life, experience, and price remain in them.
